Have you seen that commercial where the little girl comes in and asks her dad if she can borrow the car? She's going to the movies with friends and dad throws her the keys. The sweet little five year old morphs into a teenager and heads out for the night. I had that experience this morning chatting with my son about college graduation. We were talking about regalia and gowns and the graduation ceremony. He was sprawled across the chair in my office in a teenage mutant ninja turtle t-shirt and jeans. The flash of his younger self was there in that cocky grin and I realized that yet another four years had flown by.
I don't feel sad but I do feel the pinch of time passing. I am so glad, however, that I have such clear recollections of my son at all stages of his life – that I've been able to see him as he has morphed from child to teen to young man.
